The Ranee Boutique Suites @ Jalan Main Bazaar - Kuching

The Ranee Boutique Suites

The Ranee located at the end of the River Waterfront which is just beside the UOB Bank at the corner. It is very near to the Merdeka Plaza.

It is certainly lives up to the ' boutique' portion of its name - the entire hotel is renovated off a couple of shop houses and has just 24 rooms. We use the word 'rooms' intentionally, because these really are just regular hotel rooms despite the hotel's self declared 'suite' naming convention. It;s got a terrific location right smack on one end of the Kuching Waterfront, right around the corner of a sohppping mall, The Plaza Merdeka and within easy walking distance of a myriad of food, handicraft and other miscellaneous knick-knack shopping options.

Check in at here was quick and easy, the waiter will serve you with mini welcome amenity of iced lemon tea and cold towels.

The entire staff include front desk, restaurant, and housekeeping was friendly

Furthermore, the interior environment with gorgeous design that it had a mini garden complete with a seating area for you to rest. It seen to be like open air however the weather is refreshing and you wont feel hot as there has air-conditioned cover the surrounding. Beside the garden, it also decorate with some art pieces, traditional bicycle, so some modern fitting.

For the room section, the bed was most comfortable and the bathroom was great. In the order of importance for me, the internet was strong and steady the entire time as was the TV signal. Water pressure was great and hot water was plentiful. The controls for the air con worked quite good and easy to have a pleasant temperature in the room during the entire stay.

The bathroom was huge, clean, and extremely modern. It is fully stocked with shampoo, soap, toothbrush & paste, and even razors which are all available to freshen up your day.

Song Hin Pork Porridge @ Jalan Power - Kuching

Song Hin Pork Porridge

Open Air Market divided into two parts. The one facing Padang Merdeka is the place for the famous Sio Bee and beef noodle. I'll introduce them next time. The back part facing the Waterfront is mostly cater for dinner, Chinese dishes. There are two stalls selling pork porridge here. The stall that we like to introduce is this, Song Hin Pork Porridge.

The place just underwent renovation last year. Looks much more cleaner and bright. But the hygiene still has some room for improvement. The tables have been used for a long time and ' laminated' with a layer of stain. If wipe harder with wet tissue, you can get the whole sheet black. dont try to walk pass their kitchen too, it is not 'appetizing'.

Song Hin Pork Porridge, you can add on with pork intestine, liver, century egg or raw egg. If you wan to have something 'light' taste for supper, Song Hin Pork Porridge is a good choice.

Almost everyone was eating this porridge from stall called Song Hin.

From the stall not far away from the Song Hin Porridge, we ordered these mugs of hot lime, and i must say that it was really very yummy. It was thick and it was citrusy, and it was fragrant. It was salty.

Meatball porridge - RM 4.00

Pork Porridge with Egg - RM 4.50

You may also add on with raw egg to make the porridge more tasty. The porridge is good, which wont be too sticky. It is soupy and There is an egg embedded inside... The porridge also had good consistency.. soupy and not thick .. aromatic and tasty. The meatballs were delicious too.

However i always order the porridge with meat ball & egg only because i don't like pork intestine =D.

Sunny Hill Ice Cream @ Jalan Bukit Cahaya - Kuching

Sunny Hill Ice Cream

There was a long, long queue as we reached there ... and all the tables were occupied

Sometime might have to try your luck when you reach there

There are actually very limited flavors to choose from, in fact, there will only certain flavors of Sundae in Sale on Specific days :

Everyday - Vanilla

There are few variations on how you wish the sundae to be served, either serving on cones, in a bowl with nuts or without, ice cream sandwich style (Sundae with bread), Banana split and etc.

On my first trial, i didn't feel extraordinary yummy, but the strong milk powder fragrance attracted my taste buds ! i personally like that milky taste but it might not be the story for those not in favor. The sundae itself is super smooth, the smoothness that i never feel before having ice cream melting in my mouth. It is indeed cooling and refreshing ! Apart from the nice taste, the ice cream was not too sweet ! Thumbs up for this!

Ice Cream with Bread - RM 3.50

Think nobody will think the ice-cream is bad, is nice in fact that you will feel keep go back and try once more.

Well... Basically, the soft serve ice-cream was really smooth and milky, not too sweet and very

Open Air Market @ Jalan Power * Kuching

Open Air Market

Beside the Sunny Hill Ice-cream, which is the favorite of all Kuching People, there is this Gula Apong or palm sugar ice-cream sold at the open air market, which also attracted lots of people.
The stall always queue with lot of people just to waiting for the turn to purchase a cup of ice-cream with Gula Apong.

The stall is just located within the Kuching Open Air Food Court which is situated on a former historical landmark in the Cat City. The old Kuching Fire Station once stood there before it was demolish in the 1950s, but its tower was spared until today, standing tall form the center of the food court

Gula Apong Ice-Cream - RM 2.00

The stalls sells one flavour a day and it changes every two to three days, so come back if you have the time to taste their Vanilla, Pandan, and Chocolate Ice -Cream.

Well, it's essentially soft-serve ice cream, dizzled with Gula Apong syrup. Through the ice-cream itself was not too sweet. I find the texture and taste to be interior. The texture of the ice cream was no that smooth, and soft of resembled the texture of sorbet. It did not taste creamy and milky, and the chocolate flavor was rather diluted. The Gula Apong was not very sweet, but it did not slight fragrance that was rather pleasant. I think that was the thing that appealed to most of the people

Ice-Cream with Bun - RM 3.00

Truthfully, most of the people after try the ice-cream might just feel the taste is just ok, but what gives it that extra kick is the dazzle of sweet gula apong syrup, you may also ordered with extra cornflakes or blended peanuts add on.

However if you are first time coming to Kuching and like to try Local Ice-Cream, i will recommend Sunny Hill for the ultimate ice-cream experience with smooth, creamy, milky & tasty !! Must Try !

Bakso Merapi Special - RM 6.00

A fiery beef flavored soup consisting of five huge bakso (beef balls) and three types of noodle - Kway Teow, Maggi and Beehoon. For a lip -smacking meal, slurp up the spicy broth straight from the bowl to set your lips on fire.
